Today I am going to show you how to crochet a face mask, and I wanted to share with you also the written pattern and a pattern chart that I have created. I hope you like it!
Video tutorial: How to Crochet a Face Mask | With Elastic Straps and Lining! | Brunaticality Crochet - YouTube
Pattern Chart:
Easy to follow written pattern:
Ch30 + 1 for next row
ROW 1 - sc into 7 sts, hdc into 3 sts, dc into 8 sts, hdc into 3 sts, sc into 8 sts (always ch2 for next row)
ROWS 2 - 10 - ch2, sc into 7 sts, hdc into 3 sts, dc into 8 sts, hdc into 3 sts, sc into 8 sts
ROW 11 - Following the same pattern until dc st number 3, on the 4th and 5th we will be doing an increase, so 2 dcs into dc st numbers 4 and 5, follow the same pattern all the way down.
ROW 12 - Follow the normal pattern, making sure to dc on top of the previous 2 dc increase. Now we have 10 dc st instead of 8.
ROW 13 - Following the same pattern until dc st number 3, on the 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th dc st we will be doing a decrease, into the next 2 stitches you will be doing a decrease, first decrease with dc sts number 4 and 5 and then the next two, dc sts numbers 6 and 7, now follow the same pattern all the way down.
HOW TO DECREASE DOUBLE CROCHETS (dc2tog):
- Yarn over hook.
- Insert hook into next stitch.
- Yarn over.
- Pull the yarn through the stitch. There should be three loops on your hook.
- Yarn over.
- Pull the yarn through the first two stitches. There should now be two loops on your hook.
- So, leave those two loops on the hook, yarn over and insert your hook into the next stitch.
- Yarn over and pull through the first two stitches. There should be three loops on the hook.
- Yarn over and pull through all three stitches.
ROW 14 - Following the same pattern until dc st number 2, on the 3rd and 4th dc sts you will be doing a decrease, now create 2 dcs into the next 2 sts, into the 7th and 8th dc sts you will be doing another decrease, now follow the same pattern all the way down.
ROW 15 - ch 2 and sc all the way across the top of the mask, if you want you can incorporate a wire with the scs as I did in the tutorial. Leave the yarn in the project and now let's sew the elastic. - Sew elastics on the sides of the mask, if you see on the picture above you will see 4 yellow lines on the sides, that's where you will be sewing the elastics' ends. I cut my elastic 18 cm, and 2 cm at the end I have used to sew into the mask. - Once you have the 4 ends of the elastic sewed into the mask, we will be doing scs going around the elastic, you will be starting where you left off, and create the sc into that elastic going all the way around, now you will sc into every st from the base of the mask, and sc around the elastic on the other side, sl st into any st from the sides and fasten off. - Now to finish it off and make the mask wearable outside, you will need to add a lining, I have the tutorial for the lining in the video linked at the beginning of this post!
Thank you so much and now you can be safe outside with your new crochet mask! See you in my next post!
